IS YOUR BATTERY BAD — OR JUST DRAINED?
If you tested your battery with a meter or got a test slip from a parts store, type the numbers into the 3 boxes below. We will tell you in plain English if your battery is truly bad or if it just needs a proper bench recharge:
WHAT QUALIFIES FOR BATTERY WARRANTY (AND WHAT DOES NOT)
All battery manufacturers only cover internal factory defects (like an internal shorted cell or a battery that is fully charged to 12.5V+ and still cannot hold cranking power). Here are the two most important things every driver should know:
If you jump-start a battery below 11.7V and rely on driving around to charge it, the dead battery forces your alternator to run at maximum heat and output nonstop. This can burn out a $600 to $1,200 alternator, while never fully charging the battery!
To qualify for a warranty replacement, the battery must first be professionally bench-charged to 12.5V+. If we charge it up and it still fails to hold power, it qualifies as a bad battery!
